About Us
1980
Sometime in the 1980’s (we won’t say which year) Mama Martinez was surfing and eating her way through Hawaii, finding out she was pregnant, and developing a love for the Island of Lanai which inspired her to name her first born, Amy Lanay. Daniel spent this decade living his best life ordering food at fancy restaurants in the California Bay Area.
According to his mother, at five years old Daniel ordered quail and when the chef came out to ask him how it was, he shrugged his shoulders and said “tough chicken.” We should have known he was going to be bougie then.
1990
Sometime in the 90’s Amy’s love for food developed in a home economics class. She began cooking as much food at home and her parents gave her full reign. Around the same time, Daniel was learning the love of food preparation as well.
2000
In the 2000’s Amy began working for a restaurant as a Shift Leader, and even completed classes to continue in management there. As a second job, Amy worked in an office with a very diverse cultural environment and that is where she learned the love of food for many different cuisines. Daniel also began working in restaurants and learning to prepare food professionally all while learning about the business of the food industry.
2005
Daniel and Amy meet and fall in love. Plans to one day open a restaurant immediately begin. Recipes are tested around the family table with friends and family. Amy took a special interest in mixology and baking and began creating cocktails and all her loved ones began receiving a scratch made cake for their birthday.
2008
The pair get married and have a Hawaiian themed wedding complete with Hawaiian cuisine. Daniel even wore a Hawaiian shirt instead of a suit! They continue to create food for their loved ones and it is determined they will throw all of the family get togethers. Hosting all holidays and celebrations, they get plenty of practice towards one day opening their own spot.
2012
Time to move to Indiana! Daniel and Amy love the city of LaPorte but one thing they miss is the melting pot of cultural foods from their hometown. Learning how much LaPorte supports hometown and local business really inspires the dream to open their restaurant where they can serve their community and introduce a new type of cuisine to the area.
2017
After working for several local restaurants Daniel gets the opportunity to do seasonal work in Vermont at an award winning Inn and Restaurant. For several summers, Daniel spent six months on the Champlain Islands working his way up from line cook to Executive Chef of two restaurants. During this time Amy focused on working as a Nurse and sometimes bartender to support the family and every dollar Daniel made went into the business fund.
2023
We finally saved enough to buy a food truck!
Renovations began, recipes were tested, inspections were made, and all the necessary things have happened so we can finally share our dream with our community.
